flory, I totally agree that the application process is a nightmare. My transcripts had all the classes I took and the grades I got in them. I submitted a separate document with my graduation stuff on it, but most high school transcripts have the graduation date too. According to the application guide, SILS wants "a certificate of the results of the GCE (One or more A-level subject, or two or more AS-level subjects)", but I think that's in addition to a transcript. If you submit your app and they don't think it's finished, they'll tell you what you need to give them. Just be sure to submit it during the early part of the application process so you have time to fix it if you need to.

well...I have a GPA over 4.0, but you ACT score makes me more worried! Wow... I hope my essay can meke it up..

Hey there, I actually live in Tokyo and have long attended the French School of Tokyo. However, last year, I quitted for the Japanese system in order to aim directly at the High school graduation certificate in order to attend college.

Now the deadlines for SILS Batch 1 is Thursday, I've just paid the fees (35 000 yens !!!) and I saw your post about attaching ALL transcripts of all high schools and I turned straight pale. Although I've managed to find my French academic transcripts (which are mediocre ... I sincerely regret) well, they are in ... French. I have one document in Japanese stating I have attended the French school but my transcript(grade sheet) is in French and I really don't have the time right now to go to the embassy, ask for a sworn translation and send it to SILS. So I'm really confused as to wheter, at least send them my Japanese French school-registration-certificate or maybe add a little note stating I couldn't attach my transcript, but then again, if I wasn't this badly organised, there's no reason I could've missed it so I don't think there's much of an excuse here.

Anyway, I think I'll at least put my French School registration certificate

Cheers !

Greg

Sorry Paul, I don't know what would be best to do. You should talk to the SILS admissions people. Best of luck in applying!

hi greg

I just found out of this place. This is really helpful! Thank you soooo much!

And I am in the process of applying for the Fall 2010 intake and applications closes on 14th April. It's kind of rush now. I am very scared that I cannot make it in time. Would like to ask when you make an error in your application do they email you to tell you the error? Like do they inform you very soon or it takes a week or so.

Hope you are enjoying your time in Waseda now!

Greg

Thanks, glad I could help. Yep, they e-mail you about mistakes you make in your application, don't worry. It's quick. I even scanned some stuff for them and attached it.

This is awesome. Thank you so much for spending time on writing out this helpful guide. I am in the process of applying for April 2011 entry. I do have a few questions. On the application under the 'Standardized Tests' section, it asks to enclose the original score card. I took the ACT and I went on the site and asked to have a 'personal copy' sent to my home address. Will this 'personal copy' suffice? meaning, is it valid? because 'personal copy' to me sounds like it is not official and would therefore not be accepted. Do I need to issue another score report sent directly from the ACT office?

As for the photos (included in the visa and school) you mentioned that just printing them on photo paper wasn't good enough. What kind of paper did you need? Would you mind sending an exact example of what it should look like? If not, I completely understand. Perhaps you could describe it in more detail? I would prefer to print the photo myself, but if you highly recommend that I don't I will not.

And lastly, I attended a college for one year and I have the transcript; however, you had mentioned that I may need a 'certificate of registration'?

Sorry it's so long! I'm really nervous about all of this. I really hope I get in.

Thank you kindly!

Greg

Hi Leiah,
From the ACT website you can have the scores sent directly to Waseda. I think that's what you should do. They accepted a notarized copy of my personal report until my official scores came from the ACT people (they got lost in the mail the first time...), but I think you have to have them send an official copy. I think the main problem with the photos I printed wasn't the paper but my printer. The photos didn't come out clear enough, so they didn't like them. If you can print them on photo paper and have them look just as clear as a normal photo then I imagine it wouldn't be a problem. I'd rather not share my embarrassing photo but basically it's from the top of my head to just a tiny bit below my chin. It should focus on your face. Also make sure it's good because it'll be on your student ID, lol. You can ask your college admissions people for a certificate of registration probably. For me, I had to print it out online and have the registrar people stamp it. It might be called something different for you, but it was a sheet of paper that outlined the periods I had been enrolled in school for.

Oh yeah, and since this guide was for the 2010 admissions, make sure they haven't changed anything by looking at Waseda's application guide.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Leiah

Hi again Greg,

Thank you for your help! :-) I do have one more question. For the April 2011 entry essay, one part of the topic asks, "what course of study you are thinking of pursuing while at SILS". I looked over the undergraduate SILS website and I couldn't find any link to a list of courses I could browse. Do you know where I could find it? I'm a little confused...

Leiah

(to add to ^)

I understand that they are asking "course of study" so it would be something like "business" or "international relations" and that I don't have to give specific classes. But, I'm still a bit confused...I am reading over this:
http://www.waseda.jp/sils/en/about/feature02.html and to my understanding, you choose one our of the seven "clusters"?
