Dude, didn't see this until today. Awesome post! How's the school treating you?

Greg

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't start until April, so I'm doing a lot of nothing right now. I need to put the next part of this soon, though.

Rachel

Wow, this is going to be really helpful. I'm actually going to begin my application process over my winter break which starts in a week.

Your post was very easy to follow but I'm confused on the proof of my funds part? Do I really need 2 million yen ($22,134) because neither me nor my mother have that in the bank.

Rachel

Oh and one more question. Is this the process for the one year exchange program with Universities that are partnered with Waseda? B/c the application online looks different (Different essay questions) and now I'm a bit confused.

http://www.waseda.jp/cie/exchange/download/sils/sils_all_document.pdf This is the one I was going to fill out then I saw your blog...

Greg

Thanks, Rachel. This is for applying to the 4-year undergrad program, the 1-year exchange program process looks like it's different. The money requirement is ridiculous, I agree. I was talking to one of my language teachers and he said that he had all his relatives transfer some money into an account, got a letter, and then gave it all back. I'm not sure about the specific amount you need, but if you e-mail the SILS people they reply pretty quickly. Good luck!

Kathy Lee

First of thank you so much for the great post. I'm a Senior in high school right now and applying to Waseda and without this I would have been more confused.
I sent SILS an email about the 2 million yen funds and scholarships but their answers really didn't satisfy me. I just wanted to know from your personal experience, how much did you show SILS? Neither my parents or I have that kind of money.
And I wanted to know if you had an experience with the scholarships. Is the interview with SILS considered the exam that is evaluated for the scholarship?
Thanks so much!

Greg

Kathy, I know how you feel. I was super confused too. I still am, a little bit. Unfortunately I don't know much about the scholarships yet. I'll write a new blog post when I figure them out. I think that the interview and your high school transcript and stuff counts as part of the selection process for them. I was lucky enough to have 2 million yen to show them (thank you, college trust!), so I'm sorry that I can't offer anything else on that, but I really doubt that everyone has that kind of money in liquid cash... I've heard that people have worked around it before, but I don't know the specifics. I'd hope that SILS admissions would work with you once you apply to get all that stuff together, it's for immigrations after all.

Myeong

Would you mind to tell me what ACT score you got? I only got 24.. and I'm very worried about it.

flory

my god, thank you so much. the application process is a nightmare! i'm working my way through it now.

my high school doesn't issue academic transcripts, so they're actually putting one together for me. what should go on it, besides date of graduation? yours seems to have listed all the classes you've taken on it; is that what should go on it? what i have is a certificate of my grades for my O-Level examinations (English system) and a letter stating my AS-Level grades. is that an academic transcript, or would i need to provide graduation date etc on it?

Greg

Myeong, I got a 32. It doesn't look like Waseda shares their averages, so I don't know what kind of score gets you in. But I got a pretty mediocre GPA (3.15) so you might be able to make up for lower scores with higher ones.
